Landscape Designer Occupation Added to National Census
We are pleased to announce that the profession of ‘Landscape Designer’ will officially be recognised in the next census (see Occupation 312134 Landscape Designer | Australian Bureau of Statistics) . This important development has only been made possible through the hard work of our LDI Advocacy team who worked with representatives from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) over the last year.
In December ABS published the first edition of the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA), which replaces the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) for use in Australia.
OSCA informs Australia’s important decisions involving statistical outputs and labour market analysis. The ABS uses OSCA to describe occupations in its statistical output from collections such as the Census of Population and Housing and Labour Force Survey, and administrative data such as the Linked Employer-Employee Dataset.
I’d like to thank Colin Dagger (LDI Vice President) and especially Janine Mendel (LDI Professional Member, WA) for their exceptional efforts in working with me on getting this recognised. This will be fantastic for our industry now to get a sense of our scale, and for all Landscape Designers to feel counted at the next census and finally be recognised in their own unique profession!
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Andrew Munro
LDI President
