Membership category update | 'Member' becomes 'General Member'
As part of our ongoing work to strengthen and clarify LDI’s membership structure, we are making a small but important update to one of our membership category names.
Going forward, the current Member category will be renamed General Member.
This is a name change only, designed to make our membership categories clearer and easier to understand for members, prospective members, industry partners and the broader public.
We want our membership structure to clearly reflect the different stages, experience levels and professional pathways within our community. The new General Member clarifies that this membership is for those who want to be part of LDI, including emerging designers, those building their experience, people working towards professional recognition, or those connected to the landscape design industry who may not yet meet the requirements for Professional Landscape Designer (PLD) or Registered Landscape Designer (RLD) membership.
Importantly, this change also highlights the value of LDI’s PLD and RLD members who have undertaken a review process that recognises their training, experience and professional capability, giving clients, councils and industry partners greater confidence when engaging a landscape designer at this level of membership.
This update will also support clearer communication around member benefits, including eligibility for professional recognition, designer search listings, awards, trust logos, and other opportunities connected to different membership categories.
There is no immediate action required. Over the coming months, we will provide further information about the membership categories, including pathways for those who may wish to apply to upgrade to PLD or RLD membership.
We see this as a positive step in strengthening the value of LDI membership, supporting designers at all stages of their career, while providing clearer recognition for those who have achieved Professional or Registered status.
Thank you for being part of LDI and for helping us continue to build a strong, trusted and clearly recognised professional community for landscape design in Australia.
Warm regards,
Vanessa Walsh
LDI Director
