LDI opens the door to new business
Many councils see membership of LDI as a quality credential, making you eligible to submit landscape plans with Development Applications. It also reassures private home owners and commercial property owners that you will provide a quality service.
LDI promotes the importance of our profession
We actively promote the benefits of using professional landscape designers through our involvement in magazine editorials, garden judging and shows. LDI's National Landscape Design competition showcases members' work and is an excellent opportunity for media recognition.
LDI's membership structure is divided into 3 main pillars: Practice, Learn & Support.
If you are practicing in the landscape design industry, studying landscape design or landscape architecture, teaching the landscape designers of the future, or work in an industry allied to landscape design, there is a membership category for you.
Members - Designers and practitioners currently working in the landscape industry are welcome to apply for membership in this category eg. Designers, Horticulturists, Landscape Contractors and Allied practitioners. Included in this category are those who have recently graduated with a qualification in landscape design or landscape architecture but not yet ready to submit a portfolio for Professional Landscape Designer membership.
Professional Landscape Designers (PLD) - Experienced landscape design professionals can apply for membership in this category. Applicants are required to submit evidence of any formal qualifications held and a portfolio of 3 landscape designs prepared by them for assessment by LDI's Membership Committee. The assessment criteria applied to the portfolios can be viewed using the link below. To maintain membership at this level members are required to participate in LDI's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program.
Registered Landscape Designers (RLD) - Applications for membership in this new aspirational category are called for in January and June of each year. To be eligible for consideration you must already hold PLD level membership. Applicants are required to demonstrate through their portfolios exceptional design skills and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of professionalism through participation in LDI's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program.
Students - All students enrolled in a landscape design or landscape architecture course from any institution can apply for LDI Student membership.
Education - All educators working in a landscape design or landscape architecture faculty are invited to become an LDI Education Member.
Affiliates - All who work in industries allied to landscape design, not eligible to join in other member categories - apply for Affiliate membership.
